Ms. Parker first cannabis stem artist in NY
Bonnie Parker/ Ms. Parker first cannabis stem artist in NY
“I was born an artist thanks to our father’s work. Since I was little, I was always the best in my class at school and had many exhibitions.
When I lived in Miami, I also painted for people, but it wasn’t as professional as it is now.
I’ve been living in New York for seven years, and thanks to the time I’ve had to focus on my art, I thought about being different from other painters. Staying home, I grew marijuana plants, and when they were ready, I saw that the stems looked really nice, and I didn’t want to throw them away.
So I made my first painting, but I still had to believe in myself before everyone else did. I started following cannabis growers and talking to them about donating their stems to support my art, and they did. I’ve always longed to be a wonderful and recognized art“
1. Your use of cannabis stems as a medium is truly original—how did that first piece change your perspective on what art could be?
I see people creating Art from many things like metal, bottle caps and even trash.. one day I was trimming some cannabis plants that I had grown in my yard and I decided to create Art from the stems. I made a piece of Art and I loved the way it came out.

2. As someone born into art and now living in New York, how do you feel your environment has shaped your evolution from painting in Miami to creating conceptual cannabis-based works?
• while in Miami I would paint using oil, acrylic paints and colored pencils, when I moved to New York I grew some plants and fell in love with the CANNA COMMUNITY. So my Art coincides with my growing plants.
3. How do people especially in the art and cannabis communities respond when they realize your materials come from marijuana plants?
•I love to see people’s different reactions to my CANNA ART. Once they realize what I do they’re amazed.
